Pop-up Windows - Annoying Advertisements
- A Users Guide
Pop-ups are becoming more and more annoying every day.
I’ve written this article to help you understand where
pop-ups come from, how to avoid getting them and what
you can do to get rid of them.
First, it is important to understand
that a pop-up advertisement happens for one of two reasons.
Either a web page tells a pop-up window to appear or
a program running on your computer tells a web page
to open. In some cases, you may actually want or need
that pop-up to work for the website to be functional.
In most cases, they are annoying and completely rude.
So where do we get these little programs
causing all these problems. A lot of free software has
these programs attached to them. Kazaa, for example,
is a known pop-up program. A lot of those free search
toolbars also cause major pop-ups. Believe it or not,
a lot of those pop-up blockers, while blocking some,
also cause pop-ups. We also get pop-up software automatically
and silently downloaded in the background when we visit
certain websites. Porn websites are known to download
many different types of pop-up software which, quite
periodically, advertises pornographic web pages.
I’ll include here a brief list of
programs which cause pop-up advertisements. As much
as you might like them, uninstalling them will help
keep your computer pop-up free.

with care. Uninstalling a program may have adverse effects
on your computer. If you are having problems with your
PC, contact Miami

disappear.
In addition to these visible pop-up
programs, any number of different silent pop-up programs
could be running in your background. Removing these
silent pop-up programs involves editing your startup
programs, located in the msconfig utility, and editing
your registry settings. This should be done by an experienced
technician. Incorrectly modifying your registry may
cause your computer to no longer boot. Incorrectly modifying
your startup programs may cause certain applications
to not function correctly. Contact Miami Computer Repair
if you need assistance removing pop-up programs.
Many people ask me why their anti-virus
software doesn’t pick up these silent pop-up programs
intruding their computers. The fact is, these software
programs, though not wanted, are not viruses. They are
legitimately downloaded from various websites the exact
same way a picture is downloaded.
