Spyware Removal - A Tutorial and Users Guide

Once in SafeMode, run the Adaware program. If you have followed the steps listed in this article, you will have already updated the definition files. Run a full system scan. Once completed, quarantine all objects found. If adaware gives an error message stating it could not remove some components and to remove them after a reboot, hit Cancel. Once adaware has completed, run Spybot v1.3 and remove anything and everything it finds.

Next, we reset our Internet Configuration Properties

  1. Start > Settings > Control Panel > Internet Options.
  2. Delete Files.
  3. Reset your homepage to google or msn.
  4. Click Security Tab at top
    1. For each of the Web Zones, click them and click Default Level.
    2. For Trusted and Restricted Sites > click Sites and remove any that may be in the list.
  5. Click Privacy Tab at top
    1. Set Default.
  6. Click the Advanced Tab at top.
    1. Click Restore Defaults then uncheck both “Enable Install on Demand (Internet Explorer)” and “Enable Install on Demand (Other)”. Click Ok
  7. Next, go to My Computer > Windows (Winnt) > delete the folder called Prefetch.
  8. Empty your Recycle Bin
  9. Reboot computer into normal mode.
    1. Do not reconnect Internet or Network cable.
Once back into normal mode, you should see a dramatic increase in system performance. Run the adaware and spybot programs once again to ensure that all spyware has been removed.

Finally, for Windows XP users, I recommend running the WinsockXPFix utility to reset your network configurations. Many techs will say this is unneeded, but I have personally experienced some interesting slippery spyware issues which this has resolved and I have yet to see it cause any problems on any systems.

These steps will resolve 99% of spyware infections and issues. Some spyware infections continue to reinstall themselves. These spywares require much more advanced and individual removal procedures. If your computer is still infected with spyware, please contact Miami Computer Repair at 305-350-1953 to have your system professionally cleaned.

I hope that this article has helped you to return your system performance. I will update it as often as possible with the latest information and removal techniques.
